ELEMENTARY CONCEPTS OF LINEAR AND
MATRIX ALGEBRA
Introduction:
- A matrix is a set of rows and columns.
- A matrix contains m rows and n columns are called a matrix of order mxn.
- A matrix is said to be square matrix if the number of rows and number of columns are same.
- The elements a11, a22, a33…are called diagonal elements.
- A matrix having only one row is called row matrix.
- A matrix having only one column is called column matrix.
- A matrix which has all elements as zero except diagonal elements is called diagonal matrix.
- A matrix which is diagonal matrix and all the diagonal elements are same it is called scallar matrix.
- A matrix which is Scalar matrix and all the diagonal elements are 1 it is called Identity matrix.
- A matrix obtained by interchanging the rows and columns of the matrix is called transpose of the matrix
- A matrix is symmetric matrix if A and its transpose is same.
12. A matrix is Skew symmetric matrix
if A and negative of its transpose is same.
13. A matrix is said to be Hermitian
